Goshi x Brain Dead: Exfoliating Towel

Brain Dead is thrilled to announce their collaboration with Goshi on a rendition of their renowned exfoliating towel. Produced in Gunma, Japan, a region whose rich history in textile manufacturing goes back thousands of years, this 100% recyclable nylon towel provides what is the human version of a buff and polish. Easy to use with your go-to shower soap, Goshi prides themselves on a modern solution to full body exfoliation that will make your skin as soft as ever. To celebrate this activation, Brain Dead and Goshi have partnered with F2000 Racer Tommy Cadwalader for his recent slate of races as well as a speedy digital short. With Tommy’s goal being to race F1 in the future, we were incredibly excited to support him and have the GOSHIBRAIN logo proudly displayed on his car. Devendra Banhart

Brain Dead has tapped Los Angeles, CA based musician and artist Devendra Banhart for a new line of home goods. Banhart, who spent his formative years between Venezuela and Southern California has made a multifaceted career as both a musician and a visual artist. With an illustrious music career spanning the last two decades, Banhart has maintained a tangential passion for the visual arts, earning a Grammy nominee for his 2010 artwork and packaging on his album What Will We Be. Banhart has shown in some of the world’s premiere galleries, including San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), Art Basel Contemporary Art Fair Miami, Hauser & Wirth Los Angeles, the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, and most recently at Nicodim Gallery in Los Angeles. We are excited to collaborate with Banhart on a series of homegoods, a Japanese made rug and ceramic cups, plates, and incense holders produced locally by Long Beach, CA based EKUA Ceramics. The portraits featured throughout the collection were done during the early weeks of the pandemic. A batch of Devendra Banhart vinyl records featuring his hand drawn cover illustrations will also be available exclusively via Brain Dead Studios Fairfax. “The portraits in this series began at the beginning of lockdown, during hours and hours of intimate conversations with my closest friends, conversations that would traverse the entire emotional spectrum within a few moments, early days of wild waves that are still coming and going. I was especially thrilled to be collaborating on homewares or better said, utilitarian art objects whose use also includes the simple comfort of something tactile, something one can hold, something that changes as time and touch embed it with new characteristics, sometimes adding something new to your home can make your home feel new …I’ve been admiring Brain Dead’s ever evolving interdisciplinary universe for some time now…. The sun is shining... are you protected? We are back with a brand new run of our Post Modern Primitive Eye Protection just in time for Summer. Crafted from our sustainably sourced, biodegradable acetate and structured stainless steel core, these glasses include optical quality lenses with 100% UV protection. We’re pleased to announce that this drop features new iterations of the fan favorite Tanis, Elias, and Kopelmans. Not ones to stick to our guns, this year we’ve added three new silhouettes to the mix. BRAIN DEAD STUDIOS is an experiential space collaboratively curated by the Brain Dead family to share our design, creation and inspiration. Located at the historic Silent Movie Theater site in Los Angeles, the Studios feature a green room, cafe, and movie theater. The green room showcases the latest Brain Dead merch drops, alongside apparel exclusive to the Studios. Everything on site is sourced and created with thought, from our handpicked record collection to our collabs with local growers and artisans. The patio restaurant SLAMMERS serves coffee all-day, as well as lunch and dinner. Our culinary director selects local, seasonally sourced foods to create a unique menu of cafe cuisine inspired by recipes from around the globe. The movie theater remains true to its origins as an arthouse repertory cinema. Each month we present an all-inclusive blend of films ranging from the silent era to the contemporary, orchestrated around the nuances of a specific theme.

Gotcha!

Brain Dead and Gotcha are ecstatic to announce our first surf inspired collection. Founded by the late great Michael Tomson, Gotcha was once the biggest surf brand in the world. Producing pieces as innovative as they were prolific, Gotcha’s influence was felt from your locals' parking lot to high-fashion runways the world over. These items include everything from their inimitable use of neon, iconic hand print graphics and (most especially) the Gotcha Shark, which is a facet of both the co-branded logo as well as the above digital short, which follows a shark aptly named ‘Skinny Mike’ as he embarks on a treacherous virtual hacking mission for boatloads of cash. Reebok and Brain Dead present: ‘Zigman v.s. The Spacecraft’

“Roger Jones must save the city from its various evils. With the help from a ship called My Friend, he is given a great power to do so.” Brain Dead and Reebok are delighted to announce their 3rd collaboration with the release of the Zig Kinetica II. This technology-packed silhouette has provided us the largest canvas with which to channel our creativity without sacrificing any performance attributes. Featuring Reebok’s proprietary Floatride Fuel cushioning wrapped in a Zig Energy Shell, the Zig Kinetica II’s return energy to the user with each stride they take. These shoes are heavily inspired by Japanese Kaiju Vinyl Toys. This is evident from the speckled, wavy overlays and the midsole gradient. This campaign follows the story of ‘Zig Man’, a Sentai style superhero who fights to both save his city from monsters as well as himself from the mundanity of his existence. Whether you’re taking on outside invaders in an effort to save humanity or fighting the urge to eat that 3rd slice of pizza, these shoes are ready for whatever your next battle has in store.

Today, Roa Hiking and Brain Dead reveal their Summer ‘21 collaboration. The collaboration takes the form of an original Neal silhouette, one of ROA’s iconic models, in a gel-injected cavallino upper. To give us a first glance of the shoe Ami Evelyn concocted a magical campaign featuring a fabulous IT girl, a cave giant and a swamp troll touching upon both the shoe’s details and angles. The Roa x Brain Dead Neal features: The upper is composed of 90% Calf Leather and 10% Polyester that will give you a straight feeling of pony hair. - ROA logo on Black Rubber overlays toe box. - Brain Dead logo in a green gel in the back of the shoe. - Solid black Eva midsole seated atop black rubber Vibram outsole. Drop 1 of Brain Dead’s Spring collection seeks to explore otherworldly dimensional levels and (as always) stamp out reality. The collection was shot in the ultimate spatial location, invaded with huge photobioreactors that perfectly embody the innovation seen throughout the product. This collection features utilitarian silhouettes infused with in non-conventional details such as fabric paneling. From the artistic embroideries with 3D prints to the free-flowing organic paneling and layering of fabrics to create depth and subtleties, this collection is meant to be worn throughout all walks of life.

How to carry your goods around... All the proceeds from our A.P.C. Unity tote will be donated to 100% of profits will go towards New Orleans, LA based youth music organization The Roots Of Music. The Roots of Music empowers the youth of New Orleans by providing education on the rich musical history of their city. Programming includes music theory, instrumental instruction and performance education for children ages 9-14 from low-income families. This support will help The Roots of Music to continue to employ their all-star music instruction team, comprised of local performing musicians and culture bearers who currently cannot perform to earn a living. Today Brain Dead and Bikini Kill announce the band’s first collaborative merch in their storied thirty year history. All profits from the shirt will go towards Peace Sisters, an organization of which BIKINI KILL frontwoman and 90’s feminist icon Kathleen Hanna sits on the board. Peace Sisters was founded by Tina Kampor, who moved from Togo to California in 2003. Playing a direct role in the support and continuity of education for 450 Tongan school girls, today Peace Sisters’ goals aligns with the message found in BIKINI KILL’s songs of the 90’s, proving that the deserving cause of female empowerment is as culturally relevant today as it was three decades ago.
