A lifetime in the making, LXXXVVVIII is the culmination of 25 years of mind-shorting, soul-igniting audio infusions for dance floors, rave dens, festivals, and concert halls.
Darren Cunningham has operated under the Actress pseudonym since 2008, when he released his debut album Hazyville. Since then, Actress produced works that furthered the notion of electronic music, pioneering a distinctive style that combined elements of Dub, Afrofuturism theory, and bass culture.
With LXXXVVVIII—the Roman numerals for “88” as a tribute to the notion of infinity—Cunningham continues to expand on his sonic narrative through an intricate, deep, rich album, whose making, as the artist declared, was a non-linear process, a chess game.
