Brain Dead x Mdou Moctar

We are delighted to announce our collaboration with beloved Tuareg musician and band Mdou Moctar. We’ve designed an exclusive t-shirt inspired by their 2019 album Afrique Victim. To celebrate we’re hosting a screening of the Nigerien film, Akounak Tedalat Taha Tazoughai starring Mdou Mocatar himself followed by a special DJ set from the band at our back patio café, Slammers. Raised in the remote Niger village of Agadez, Mdou Moctar drew early inspiration from Eddie Van Halen’s 6-string approach. After building his own guitar, Mdou Mocatar mastered his unique style. Forming a band that bears his namesake, Mdou Moctar now consists of Mdou as well as rhythm guitarist Ahmoudou Madassane, drummer Souleymane Ibrahim, and producer Mikey Coltun. Afrique Victim reimagines Saharan music by melding Eddie Van Halen pyrotechnics, full-blast noise and guitar shredding, field recordings, drums rhythms, poetic meditations on love, religion, women's rights, inequality and Western Africa’s exploitation at the hands of colonial powers. Mdou Moctar is not only the frontman of his own band, but the star of the first ever Tuareg language fiction film, Akounak Tedalat Taha Tazoughai (Rain the Color Blue with a Little Red In It), an homage to Prince’s Purple Rain.

Fall '21 Drop 4 Collection

Ah Fall… the time of year where the nights get cooler, the leaves more colorful and all your favorite layers come out to play. While we’re sad to watch Summer go, the blow is cushioned by the release of our latest collection. Titled ‘Drop 4’, our pre-Fall release was shot by legendary Dutch photographer and visual artist Paul Kooiker. With Kooiker’s photographic process being highly regarded for relishing in imperfections, he has become well renowned for his post production work, oftentimes manipulating photos to get them juuuust right. With the Drop 4 campaign being shot on mannequins, Kooiker’s ability to bring life to our incredibly stiff models was a chef’s kiss in the creation of this line. Drop 4 includes all the things you’ve come to love about Fall. We’re talking fuzzy sweaters, long sleeve three-quarter zips, reverse fleece sweatpants, corduroy buckets, and (of course) a wide variety of graphic tees from the minds of our team. Heck, we even made a Chuckie inspired hoodie for good measure.

Brain Dead x "The Dark Crystal"

It’s no secret that we at Brain Dead love our movies… Today we are thrilled to be announcing the release of our latest cinema inspired capsule collection built around The Dark Crystal in collaboration with The Academy of Motion Pictures. Directed by the legendary animator and puppeteer Jim Henson in 1982, the film is widely regarded as one of the all-time great fantasy epics. The film follows the story of Jen, a Gelfing who's been tutored by the wisest of mystics. In a world in which evil runs amok, Jen sets out on a quest to restore balance to his once sacred land by finding the missing shard of the mysterious Dark Crystal. The Dark Crystal not only encapsulates Jim Henson’s genius storytelling capabilities, but highlights his innovative techniques both as a puppeteer and director with an on screen presentation that was far before it’s time.

We are jazzed to announce the release of a special line of ceramics concocted by the one and only Joey Watson. Graduating with a BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute, Watson utilizes 3D rendering, computerized gas kilns and other cutting edge technology to create his otherworldly pieces. Inspired by the human relationship between themselves and their ritual objects, the bong, mug, cup, bowl and vase he created for this collection are meant to be used as an integral part to one’s daily routine. Brain Dead x HOMESHAKE "Under The Weather" and more

We are delighted to announce we’re back with a full collection to celebrate our friend HOMESHAKE’s new album, Under The Weather. Homeshake’s 5th studio album chronicles a period of immense sadness he fell into back in 2019. The music captures a cloudy sense of a depressive funk in an attempt to take an honest look at his personal, emotional struggle. We’re thrilled to be a part of this album campaign in multiple ways from our Brain Dead exclusive color vinyl variant to producing the three music videos in the rollout: Vacuum (directed by Jordan Speer), Passenger Seat (directed by Pete Sharp), and I Know I Know I Know (directed by Keith Rankin & Ellen Thomas). To commemorate Under The Weather’s September 10th release we’ve worked with Homeshake’s creative director Salina Ladha on an exclusive capsule consisting of a long sleeve, hoodie, rug, and bucket hat as well as a limited restock of our coke bottle clear vinyl.  We're also releasing our new Dystopian beanies in four new colorways. Firstly, we were honored to be a part of a huge moment for AAPI representation in media. Secondly, we were excited to be invited into the Marvel vault to find inspiration from their vast art archive. We are ecstatic to announce the release of our latest collaboration with independently owned and operated THEM SKATES. Founded by legendary inline skater Jon Julio, THEM SKATES is as core as it gets. After winning the National Championship in 1996, Jon Julio has lived a life dedicated to the art of inline skating. From street to vert and everything in between, THEM SKATES represents what it means to be truly independent in today’s skate market. Based in Santa Ana, California, THEM SKATES has never faltered in their dedication to their beloved pastime. With our founder Kyle Ng being a fanatical skater and good friend of Jon’s, this collaboration is truly the melding of two companies whose DNA is inherently intertwined. Not only will the our collaborative line with THEM SKATES feature custom skates and a full collection of apparel, but we have joined forces to create a new team video featuring THEM’s eclectic group of international skaters. Brain Dead x Gramicci

We're excited to announce our latest collaboration with California based outdoor brand Gramicci. After making a trip to Yosemite and founding the infamous ‘Stonemasters’ with his friends in 1977, founder Mike ‘Gramicci’ Graham began prototyping products for his group to use in the hopes of quite literally bringing climbing to new heights. A lifelong climber and outdoorsman, Graham couldn’t find shorts tailor made for his favorite activity. Not one to quit when hitting a wall, Graham decided to develop his own. His innovative take on the climbing short included a gusseted crotch and integrated nylon belt, and just like that climbing gear was never the same. With climbing being an integral part of Brain Dead’s DNA this collaboration made sense from start. The Brain Dead x Gramicci collection features two t-shirts, a long sleeve, bucket hat, 6 panel hat, and of course both shorts and pants in true Gramicci fashion. The Brain Dead x Gramicci collection will release on August 24th at 10 AM PST. This collection will be made available via wearebraindead.com, as well as all Brain Dead Studios worldwide.

Brain Dead x Kiko x Asics Gel Fratelli

Kiko Kostadinov, Brain Dead, and ASICS Sportstyle come together for one the summer’s most unexpected, yet most innovative, and inspiring pairings with the release of the ASICS GEL-FRATELLI. The GEL-FRATELLI features two distinct siblings that, when paired together, form one singular voice. Right brain vs left brain. Left side vs right side. The difference between both pairs being held together by the mutual respect between all three brands. The GEL-FRATELLI marries the GEL-NIMBUS 23 sole with design cues from the ASICS LAZERBEAM upper. The teams at Kiko Kostadinov and Brain Dead each tackled one side of the shoe, independently of each other, with Kiko Kostadinov working the right side and Brain Dead on the left side. Yet, just as in our minds, and despite the contrasting styles, the two halves work together actively participating in a new dialogue. Brain Dead x Belle And Sebastian

Brain Dead has partnered with Scotland’s Belle and Sebastian on two collaborative t-shirts inspired by their albums If You’re Feeling Sinister and Tigermilk. To celebrate Belle and Sebastian have curated a special NTS show airing Friday, August 6th 5-6PM PT filled with some of their favorite music. Since their inception in 1994, the Glasgow based pop band has put out no less than 10 albums under the leadership of founding member Stuart Murdoch. Having spent over two decades delivering fans their unique brand of sensitive, thoughtful songwriting and engaging visual aesthetic, Belle and Sebastian show no signs of slowing down. In late 2020 the band released yet another project, debuting their live double LP titled What To Look For in Summer and in 2022 plan to venture on a worldwide tour. Largely considered one of the top indie pop acts not just in the UK, but throughout the world, we’re excited to work with Belle and Sebastian on this special project.

Antwan first garnered attention in Paris's independent art scene. After making his name as a graffiti writer, he made a foray into the gallery scene. His seamless blending of grit and vibrant color fit perfectly into the Brain Dead universe. Also, we already made the Horfee Shirt so... Also releasing with the suit is our newest installment of our ongoing relationship with Jason Le Compte. Late Summer Drop 3 Collection

We are thrilled to announce the third drop of our Later Summer collection.The campaign was shot in a very special location, “Pescetrullo” a project developed and designed by Gaetano Pesce. The place is represented by colorful irregular shaped houses, surrounded by fig, almond and olive trees. Keeping in the Brain Dead tradition, we’ve sourced graphics from our close network of independent artists. Artists being featured in this collection include our friends Jupes, Gassius, and Antwan Horfee. This delivery is playful to say the least. Our fabric plays this season, such as engineered ribbing mixed with all over patterns, create moments of nostalgic excitement. Our application plays this season, such as embroidery mixed with printing, are compelling not only to the eyes, but to the hands as well. From peached cotton to piques, our choice of fabric is evocative of the mid 90’s retro athleticism. Our new mesh football shirts are a nod to classic varsity iconography while our new raglan shirts usher in the dreamy nostalgia found in such movies as Dazed and Confused or Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Along with these classics, we have also created the world’s finest headwear in the form of our new bandana hat.

Formed in the heart of Baltimore’s hardcore punk scene in 2010, Turnstile has developed their style of youthful, hardcore punk over the course of the last decade.The collection includes two t-shirts, a crewneck sweatshirt, shorts, a bucket hat, totebag, and Nalgene water bottle. Founded in 1967, Flash Art has cemented themselves as a seminal global publication, driving the conversation surrounding the world of contemporary art for well over five decades. Brain Dead has partnered with Flash Art on a two page spread in their latest edition ‘Cultural Apocalypses,’ taking a stark look at the current global cultural apocalypse as human’s time on this planet comes to it’s inevitable end. To accompany the release of ‘Cultural Apocalypses’ Brain Dead has designed a custom T-Shirt featuring art from the spread. Are we simply going through the motions, or is there categorical change afoot? Warning: answers may vary....

Devendra Banhart

Brain Dead has tapped Los Angeles, CA based musician and artist Devendra Banhart for a new line of home goods. Banhart, who spent his formative years between Venezuela and Southern California has made a multifaceted career as both a musician and a visual artist. With an illustrious music career spanning the last two decades, Banhart has maintained a tangential passion for the visual arts, earning a Grammy nominee for his 2010 artwork and packaging on his album What Will We Be. Banhart has shown in some of the world’s premiere galleries, including San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), Art Basel Contemporary Art Fair Miami, Hauser & Wirth Los Angeles, the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, and most recently at Nicodim Gallery in Los Angeles. We are excited to collaborate with Banhart on a series of homegoods, a Japanese made rug and ceramic cups, plates, and incense holders produced locally by Long Beach, CA based EKUA Ceramics. The portraits featured throughout the collection were done during the early weeks of the pandemic. A batch of Devendra Banhart vinyl records featuring his hand drawn cover illustrations will also be available exclusively via Brain Dead Studios Fairfax. “The portraits in this series began at the beginning of lockdown, during hours and hours of intimate conversations with my closest friends, conversations that would traverse the entire emotional spectrum within a few moments, early days of wild waves that are still coming and going. Brain Dead x ROA Hiking Neal

Today, Roa Hiking and Brain Dead reveal their Summer ‘21 collaboration. The collaboration takes the form of an original Neal silhouette, one of ROA’s iconic models, in a gel-injected cavallino upper. To give us a first glance of the shoe Ami Evelyn concocted a magical campaign featuring a fabulous IT girl, a cave giant and a swamp troll touching upon both the shoe’s details and angles. The Roa x Brain Dead Neal features: The upper is composed of 90% Calf Leather and 10% Polyester that will give you a straight feeling of pony hair. - ROA logo on Black Rubber overlays toe box. - Brain Dead logo in a green gel in the back of the shoe. - Solid black Eva midsole seated atop black rubber Vibram outsole.
