We are thrilled to announce the online release of our Brain Dead x Mura Masa collaborative t-shirt. After hosting a pop up for the t-shirts at our Harajuku location last month, we are excited to offer this shirt to the wider Brain Dead community. To celebrate, Mura Masa curated a special Brain Dead x NTS show airing September 2nd at 11AM PT on NTS channel 2.
Our collaboration is in honor of Mura Masa’s highly anticipated third studio album, Demon Time. Alex Crossan, AKA Grammy-winning, Ivor Novello-nominated experimentalist Mura Masa, says the album previously “had a working title of Fun.“ The title Demon Time speaks to the “vicarious, escapist music” people are looking for now. “So that's where this demon time idea came from – how do we soundtrack the 1AM to 5AM period?.. A lot of it is to do with this interplay of cuteness and mischief. So it's a cartoon devil but he's doing a really shy pose. That informed a lot of the sounds. A lot of it is very dry and close, but quite abrasive in that way.” Keen to not overthink fun, he settled for “planning for sloppiness.” What emerged is a brilliant project filled with tracks that can easily be listened to again and again. Our designers tried to draw on some of Crossan’s devilish inspiration to create a shirt that encapsulates the beauty and playfulness of Demon Time.
