Brain Dead debuts sophomoric collaboration with Converse and announces “Luminous Sound”, a fund dedicated to providing resources to youth music programs in need.
Today Brain Dead and Converse announce their second collaboration with three limited edition shoe designs, available via wearebraindead.com, DSMLA, DSMNY, Brain Dead Milano and select retailers worldwide. Brain Dead enlisted the help of previous collaborator Dev Hynes to direct a short film entitled Variationswhichaccompanies the shoe’s release. Variations draws parallels between the universality of Converse's Chuck Taylor and the boundless varieties of expressions possible by young musicians.
Converse’s Chuck Taylors have remained a staple of footwear since their redesign in 1922. Their classic look is timeless and genre-less, a shoe capable of ushering generations through the arc of their own self expression.
The short film features a variety of young LA based musicians including Hello Yello and performers from the Inner City Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles(ICYOLA), the largest majority Black orchestra in America. Born out of this project Brain Dead introduces, Luminous Sound, a fund which recognizes music as a keystone of culture.
This fund is established with the goal of supporting those who work in communities across the globe to ensure future generations have equal access to music education and resources. The pursuit of music education provides pupils with an acute appreciation of what it means to be a part of something with intent and meaning. Music is woven into the DNA of Brain Dead and with that we want to serve the communities that continue to be a constant source of inspiration.
ICYOLA is Luminous Sound’s first recipient, a special charity shirt is available for pre-order for 48 hours via Brain Dead’s website starting at 10AM PT Thursday, November 19th, profits will be donated to help ICYOLA provide their students with access to reliable internet, technology for continuing their education, and private lessons
