On August 29, 2003, Lost in Translation from Focus Features premiered in the United States. It won Best Original Screenplay at the 76th Academy Awards and was also nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor. After the film’s release, nothing was the same. A whole generation formed its aesthetics around this movie as the romance between the lead characters played by Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson unraveled inside the setting of Tokyo’s iconic Park Hyatt hotel.
21 years later, Lost in Translation still tops “best-of” charts, and its soundtrack—featuring acts like The Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, and Roxy Music, among others—is still a fundamental piece of contemporary culture.
In 2024, Brain Dead celebrates this iconic film with two special t-shirts, a tote bag, and a screening at Brain Dead Studios Fairfax on January 20th. The collection will be available on January 19th, 10AM PT at wearebraindead.com for 72 hours. Coming to Brain Dead locations soon.
